How do releases work?

I’m pretty new to the hentai scene. Are releases by authors done on an annual basis or are there events I should be looking out for? For example I really enjoy Fukuyama naoto and tachibana ominas works. Do they drop releases when they feel like or are there events they wait to release their works?

Usually artists release stuff during winter and summer Comiket. I know winter Comiket is near the end of December (at least last year it was), but I don't remember when summer Comiket is--probably July or June. But Comiket is a huge event where tons of artists sell their doujinshi.
