Can artists be merged? (Or have their own tags too, at eventual point)

I noticed lately that some artists have multiple names, for instance; many of the TL dupes have artists using another name / circle name as representing...

i am kind of wondering if you can have a subscribe button for certain artists or series, so that you are alerted if that artist/series has posted
