[Locked] Lower-cost subscription
0
Hi guys,
I am a big proponent of legal content and subscriptions. I subscribe from everything from software to groceries to art. When FAKKU went toward a subscription, I had no problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is the cost of the subscription as is. I'm sure it's where it needs to be to make ends meet and still grow the business, but I just can't swallow $13 a month when that's 15% of my disposable income. I can get a subscription to Crunchyroll for $7/mo, and that's for a lot more content.
I'm not asking to dirt-cheap the quality, but a lower-price option (with fewer features/releases/artists/whatever) is something I would need to jump on board. (after a few nice pay raises, I may even upgrade the subscription!)
Ads wouldn't necessarily be out of the question for me either. I realize that video services have it easier as they are paid by view instead of click (I think most web ads are by click, I don't remember, it's been years). I wouldn't mind being shown a video from time to time, though preferably not in the middle of the good stuff, to support my habits. Again, I don't know how this would work, and I may end up purchasing a lower-price subscription to get rid of the ads anyways.
Any chance something like this is around the corner for us poorer folk?
Thanks!

My questions to Jacob is this: Sir, why 12.95? Is 5.00 or 10.00 a month too low? Why not a membership tier system? Did you run a focus group for your business plan?
It's 12.95 because of fees that the billing company issues. It was originally meant to be 10.00 a month but the company who processes payments take ~3.00 per transaction. And what would you even do for a membership tier? Restrict access to certain magazines? That would make the subscription look even less desirable

I think a lot of people would prefer a reduced rate but I don't know if we can get it. I know not having options sucks but this is what I thought of.
1. Share your account with a close buddy you can trust and split the cost.
2. Don't maintain a steady subscription. Activate it when you can and stick to piracy when you can't. I know that's such a sketchy and weird suggestion but the fact that you want to support is already heaps more than what most others are doing.

If you cant afford 13$ monthly subscription, then i suggest you fix your life first than waste time fapping. Thats comming from someone who earns fuckin 2$ per hour rate.

hgatedc: I have a significant other, child, cars, a home, and a full time job. I have things I have to pay for, like, you know, food. I'm not exactly slacking, but when you grow up and mature there are things that have to come ahead of your fapping :) Doesn't mean I'm not interested in a subscription, but it does reduce the things I can spend my money on.
I am still not sure in what way a tiered pricing system would make a subscription less desirable. It would be better than pirating everything, and honestly, I would probably just stick to what the subscription gave me, even if it's not everything I ever wanted. Just like I do with Crunchyroll. Because to me, it's more important to have good content legally than every possible title illegally. It's similar to Spotify's argument. Even if people are consuming only 50% of what they read legally, that's still 50% that's being legally paid for, which is better than 0.
What payment processing company charges a 30% processing fee? I've never heard of anything above about 3.5%.

I really think a 7 day free trial would be beneficial, almost every online subscription service these days lets you experience it for awhile before you make a financial decision as to whether it's worth your money or not. Hell even a 1-2 day trial would be better than nothing.
I'm really interested in this, but the price and not knowing exactly what i'm getting are pretty big hurdles for my stingy financial sensibilities to get over.
Just a random rant from a random. Will be keeping an eye out for future trials/deals.

Stop adding additional emotions in the factual denial that you need to fix some more stuff in your lives. Imagine the damn artists getting less, when they have the same situation as you. The 2 comics combined now being published in fakku costs about the same as the the ones in japan. Around 6.5$ each. Add translation and qc costs together with the fact that this is uncensorred then you get more than what you pay for. Thats the value of that price. Asking any less? Should we ask that you get less from your salary as well?
I understand that you might have a hard time to place budget, but what you can do is to either increase your budget or sacrifice something. Thats your move, not fakku or the artists. Therefore i think you should not have enough time to fap (at fakku) when you should get better lives for your family first. Dont ask others to lower their living standard when you cant lower yours.
Maybe what can fakku fo is to segregate payment for comic releases? One for comic kirakuten, then another for comic beast? but that means you'll only get half of what fakku releases now.

I don't need access to every single thing that is posted, just like I wouldn't subscribe to every single magazine if I lived in Japan.

On what UNIVERSE do you have the right to judge my family or quality of life, exactly? For your information, my family is well cared for. And I didn't ask for that if you'd open your eyes and READ, but you can't do that since you're all the way up there on your soap box on top of your high horse.

That was EXACTLY what I just said. But again, you didn't read, you were too busy judging. Why on Earth would I pay for all of what Fakku releases when I only, at most, get to read one chapter of something every couple of days?

If lowering the price does in fact give way more people the incentive to actually pay for it, a smaller per person could theoretically be out weighed by the sheer amount of subscriptions. Example 13$ x 100 = 1300$ vs 10$ x 150 = $1500.
Of course this is assuming that lowering the price would actually equal more people subscribing, which is possible, but not even close to guaranteed.
Long term, lowering the price is a terrible idea. Because even at the current price subscriptions should eventually get to the same number of subscriptions as a lowered price would reach in a far shorter time frame. Resulting in pretty substantial loss of future profit. ( Because raising the price later on would be far more upsetting to people than the current price is now, meaning they'll likely be stuck at the lower price even if they add far more value to the service like they're planning to ).
But even knowing all this, people will still want a lower price ( myself included ), because most consumers only consider the short term benefits.
Not sure why i'm wasting so much time over-thinking this. Honestly the main problem is that this is a very new idea for most people, and they're having a hard time warming up to it. Because people have been getting hentai free for a long time. But Crunchyroll was in the same situation in the beginning and look at them now.
Well, anyways that's the last of my 2 cents.

How about a system like this: 4 or 5 curated lists of posts, each with its own appeal, chosen by Fakku staff. Each one totals 3-4 posts a week maybe. You sign up with the "FAKKU lower-tier plan" and you can pick 1 list. You only have access to the content in that list that has been released since you signed up, and maybe a small selection of the back catalog for those days when you're home and bored. This would be more akin to subscribing to a single magazine, I would think. It would allow a more affordable option, leaves a clear incentive to upgrade, and keeps FAKKUers without much fundage on the up and up. I'm not asking for anything free here. See also my previous posts detailing how I would like to be able to consume this content without resorting to piracy.

In the end do you honestly think thats profitable? In the end, would you be really content in seeing something good in the other subscription line that you didnt get? In the end, was that really supportive? Frankly no.
And why dont you read first as well. As since maybe people would earn a lot more in bulking those than tailoring the subscription to everyone's specific needs. This aint a damn fakku books where you buy the book that you want. Less subscription would only merit complaints later for bad selection choices.
again, you dont wanna pay that amount, either get a better life to be able to be comfortable of paying that amount, or sacrifice other things. If you read what i talked About earlier, someone is already having the short end of the stick since the damn subscription already cost the same as in japan as raw censored stuff.
Think more of the big picture for once. I thought about your options but those dont add up the math for being fair.

This thread is getting a little out of hand, there is no need to criticize someone just because they can't afford the subscription.
I understand the price might be more than you can afford. I'll look into alternatives in the future. Right now the price is where it needs to be for us to succeed and as we grow we will be able to lower it. So if you can't afford it now, there are plenty of other ways to support us. Spread the word, get out there and convince people this is a service worth paying for, etc etc
