Missing older things through the middle of 2024

Well, usually one or so a year I post a list of all the little things that were missed from releases, and so increasing the cadence a little bit I figured I'd do a mid-year version. This list of "missing" things is mostly copied from my prior post about six months ago, which I guess is good (not a ton of "new" missed stuff) but I suppose is also bad (nothing was every backfilled).

So, in summary, it's mostly the same stuff from my prior post, plus some missing bits from Kairakuten and a few more missing illustrations and cover artist pages from Kairakuten BEAST (which is probably also the bulk of the existing list, it's like 75% missing single-pages). I might be jumping the gun a bit on Kairakuten since futuregraph and cover girls episodes do tend to lag, so I'm sure those will eventually show up, but since every other magazine is finished with everything up to 2024-06 and some of the missing bits are things like the Heroines pages which aren't usually that late, I figured I'd include them.

well, the missing kairakuten chapters/extras from 2024 aren't really that surprising. fakku needs 6 months or more for some chapters. happened years ago already. but i agree with stuff from 2021 etc cause that's probably been forgotten.

But the other stuff I listed as missing from May Kairakuten is a little more suspect; the Heroines pages don't usually lag that much, and it wouldn't be the first month where they weren't released so they do feel forgotten here. And the story from Matsukawa is kind of an advertisement, which is also a borderline thing because FAKKU doesn't release "ad pages" from the magazines but they do usually publish ads which also double as art or story so it's not obvious to me if the omission was deliberate or accidental.

they published pretty much any promotional chapter. be it from esuke, beko taro, just recently from yuzuto sen etc

Interesting. Usually my heuristic is that a chapters which are listed as a normal chapter in the Japanese table of contents will get released, but this seems to be exceptional. The chapter also had references to Komiflo which usually also get rewritten, so I can see why nobody really wanted to do that for a chapter that's more ad than story.

I mean, I'd say there's a difference between an ad which is some new drawings (or a little mini-story) of characters from the book being advertised, and an ad which is literally "hey this book is coming out, please buy it!". Especially if it's not a book FAKKU is publishing or selling, it's a little awkward to have so many references to something that's not actually available. In the example you gave, all of the individual stories referenced by that were already released on FAKKU, so it just comes off as a bunch of bonus art for some stories you already read (or could read).
To be clear, I wouldn't mind seeing it translated, I'm not saying they shouldn't, but I'm not also not too torn up about about not getting a chapter which is basically just a bunch of clips from a book with two characters chatting over top of them and hawking it.

don't remember the artist, but they literally translated a chapter in the past where they constantly said buy the book and something about success or whatever. and the example with esuke is just character descriptions and in which chapters they appear and no story. they don't explicitly say buy the book, but it's just an ad too. so their criteria for publishing a promotional chapter or not are random af.

It has nothing to do with it being an ad or mentioning Komiflo or other Japan-related services—that can often be easily worked around by rephrasing it to make sense in the given context. The logic is more or less, if it's brand new content that also serves as an ad, we'll do it; if it's a collage or repurposing older content, we don't. We did a few of these early on, but as they became more frequent, we stopped.
When included in a physical magazine, the referenced material is obviously not included, and the content on Komiflo is removed after a certain period of time. On FAKKU, you can simply click the artist name and read the chapters in full, so it makes little sense to publish these collage chapter.
Ultimately, it's obviously going to subjective what's deemed "worth" doing, but it's unlikely to be if it's mostly repurposed content. This is no different from republished chapters where we don't redo and repost them, we simply list the old release as being part of both magazines. If it does however add something new, it might very well get a new release—like the recent trend of recoloring older releases—or we might just add the new pages to the old release and bump that for people to see (example 1, example 2).

Okay, so I at least in that case I assume that the solution there is just to update the metadata to reflect the fact that it shows up in 2022-08 as well. For the rest of it, hopefully we can eventually get all those art and sketch pages!
