Possible new special interest board.
Do you think Fakku should add a forum for Traditional games?
Voting for this poll has ended.

The purpose of this poll is to learn if a sizable amount of Fakku users would like to add a new special interest forum for "Traditional Games"
We currently have forums for various special interest topics ranging from romance to video games. It struck me when I was talking to a friend and fellow fakku user that some of the Fakku members play games that fall into 4chan's "Traditional Games" section. Some of us play various Pen & Paper RPG's, board games, Trading Card Games, or even table top war games. I've personally played Magic: The Gathering and various Warhammer 40,000 RPG's from fantasy flight games.
Edit: Here is a list of possible subject titles, this is in no way a comprehensive list.
Tabletop Wargames can include: Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy, Blood Bowl, Heavy Gear, Battletech, Flames of War, Warmachine, Hordes, Infinity, Heroclix.
Role Playing games: Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Fantasy Flight titles (Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, etc), GURPS, Battletech, Legend of the Five Rings, New/World of Darkness Titles ( Mage: The Awakening, Vampire: The Masquerade, Requiem, etc)
Card Games: Magic: The Gathering, Yugioh, Pokemon, Duel Monsters, VS Systems, Naruto

Warhammer 40,000I would have to say yes simply because of this as the emperor commands such but many of the games you listed could easily fall into the forum categories in place, If you were to make a thread one of those I'm sure you would gather a decent body amongst those willing to look.

I feel like 4chan covers this pretty well.
They have not that much to do with either hentai, manga or anime, except for the fact that they're another part of nerd culture (though often not both aspects of the culture are interests of hentai fans)...

I'd say not. I can't see that being popular enough to warrant a designated forum outside of General.

Maybe split the video games one into two subsections. one video, and the other traditional. then just rename the section "games".

I think it's worth trying. "Traditional games" would involve a lot of things, some of which are even anime-related, like the Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon card games and any card game based on an anime series (of which there are quite a few, or at least there were back when Toonami ruled the airwaves).
Such a board would invite more detailed discussions, as well. Right now, a person might only be able to create a generic thread for the YGO card game, and everything to be discussed about the game would be done in that single thread. In a traditional games forum, however, there could be a multitude of threads about the YGO card game, each one about something different, such as the latest cards or cards banned in the latest tournaments or what kind of decks people use, etc.
I know I'd love to bitch about what's happened to Magic: The Gathering and maybe get more into D&D-style games, talking to people that know a lot about them.

I say why not? It could be up as a sub-forum of the video games section, I guess?

I don't think it should be a subforum of video games. If it was its own forum, it'd fit right above Video Games, so anyone interesting in VG would be able to easily see it, and people that like traditional games but doesn't care about video games wouldn't miss it either. And video games and traditional games are pretty different. A person that wants to talk about Battlefield 3 won't necessarily give a shit about Dungeons & Dragons, and vice versa.

Question to those who voted No.
Why should Fakku not have a forum for such games when other forums as K-1 has pointed out don't really fit?

I think it's fine, we have other categories, such as cooking, and sports & fitness.
Traditional gaming has a lot to it, I think a section for it would be appropriate.

I am not sure what the management thinks of the issue, but I am hoping the proposed "Special Interest Board" will be given a trial run.
As seen in most restaurants or F&B outlets, certain new dishes may be given a trial run. If customers like it, these dishes will be given a permanent place on the menu. Otherwise, these dishes will be treated as promotional items.

Jacob was not fond of the idea of a general RP board but perhaps he may add a board if there is room for it in your proposed section.

Plenty of forums have come and gone in the past, so why not? Just trial it for a month or two and see if it garners enough active users. Can't be any worse than 'Paranormal'. Plus, I would totally make a thread for Diplomacy.

It could be argued that most of the Special Interest boards are "extra things," but we have them to please people. I don't see how a Traditional Games board would hurt anybody or require an enormous amount of work. And as others have said, if it turned out to not be active, it could simply be deleted and the threads moved to Random.

The first idea, but to be fair I can't imagine a board where people discuss role-playing staying very active.
If all that is being suggested is a place to discuss these games but not to actually attempt to play them with members of this community then I don't believe the board will see enough traffic to be worth having.

Traditional gaming extends to more than just D&D; it also includes card games, board games, pretty much every type of game that isn't played on a game console or computer (though some of those games can also be played on consoles and computers). And there are a number of things to discuss concerning traditional games, like favorite character types, favorite types of campaigns, most memorable sessions, etc. A lot of the stuff is anime-related, too, like the many card games based on anime series, games that have been influenced by anime, even RPGs that focus on anime-style characters and situations.
I don't mean to badmouth any board, but it seems odd to not at least try out a Traditional Games board yet have "Food and Cooking" and "Sports and Fitness." Traditional games are more related to anime and are more likely to be popular among anime fans than either of the above boards.

But do they really deserve their own boards? Can you not just use Random to post these things? Do these subjects really receive enough attention for an entire section when it's as closely related to everything people talk about on fakku? Sport and fitness don't belong in random because too few people engage in them here on Fakku; that can't be said for traditional games. I've seen threads like "favorite character type" survive in random and cause no problems. I don't believe it's worthy of it's own section but It's not up to me, so good luck convincing the big man.

Does Sports and Fitness garner enough attention to warrant it's own section?

So by receiving little attention, it deserves its own board. That seems a bit backwards in my opinion. Shouldn't popular subjects get their own board instead of unpopular ones?

You saying two different thoughts here. You say Traditional games aren't worthy of their own sections and you justify that by pointing to a section that isn't really that popular to begin with.
