Question regarding the english release of Velvet Kiss Vol. 1
0
I just got my copy of the official english version of the first volume of Velvet Kiss, and it was awesome as expected. However, there was something about it that confused me. In the original scans, a few of the chapters (ch. 1, 4, and 6 to be specific) had full-color pages at the start. In the official release, the full-color pages for ch. 1 were included, but the ones at the start of chapters 4 and 6 were black and white instead. Was there a specific reason for this? Bear in mind, I mean nothing disrespectful by stating this, and I know it sounds like a minor nitpick, but I can't help but be confused if some of the original full-color pages were included but the rest were not.

Thanks for picking it up. Hopefully we'll be able to have a lot more cool licensed releases in the future.
Those original color scans of chapters 4 and 6 came from magazine scans, which were in color. When they get put into a printed volume, they often get converted into black-and-white. Generally, the Japanese publisher will only spring for a color spread for the first couple pages in a volume. I imagine that color pages are more expensive to print, and they have to try and offer them at a particular price point. It's not a rule that's set in stone, but it's generally how things work.
The licensed Velvet Kiss is based off of the Japanese volumes, so they'll follow the same pattern of color opening pages and black-and-white after that.

Thanks for the information. I figured it had something to do with the cost of printing. Keep up the good work, you have my full support.
