Rep Post - A Personal Addition
0
I think that we should be able to add a comment when we rep people so people will know why they were +/- repped. This will also show people which specific post they were repped on. This may help with some people who get - repped and don't know why and would like to maybe figure out why.
Of course, it still stays 100% anonymous on who repped (unless they tell you in the comment).
(Also, I got all of those negative reps in that image because I called a certain band shitty.)

There was a lot of discussion about this in the news thread Reputation. I think the same idea was submitted.

It was, even in different Versions. Im wondering what Jacob is planing. He didn`t made another comment about that Topic since then.

Thinking about it, perhaps giving users the option to leave a comment when they rep someone would be best. That way they can still stay anonymous.

Like, the ability to leave a note without leaving your username, so that you don't have to de-rep just to say "I hate your manner, slow the fuck down."

i dont think this feature could do any good.
we know the people around us. we know each other their personality. likes or dislikes,we know who that person is.
it's might be good to leave it without note. the -rep only given by personal problem between one person with another.
example.

they will know the reason why they gets -rep by their own action. making a note will only makes the person suspect anyone in the forum, and making he/she hates fakku for being unfriendly.
by making this feature,it makes that de-repping is fun. while i'm thinking it's not fun since we're here to join and knowing each other, not for -repping someone as we like.
as for +rep,i believe some people leaves note to the person that he/she got a +rep.
we can see who's giving us -rep judging from his/her reaction to us. we can feel it naturally.

Good point, this is why I think having the option to leave a comment is a good idea. That way it is not required, and if you are +repping someone you can say something positive.

I don't think anything better exemplifies a need for this system than this:

Actually, I'll be totally honest with yall. I think the reputation system is useless in the first place since people +/- rep for either proper reasons or mostly randomly. Then again, this is the first forum I've been to that has such a system implemented, and it has taken time for me to get used to.
But if something were to be done about the +/- repping situation, a little message board stating who got +/- repped might be a good thing since it'll allow others to see who and perhaps why certain people got +/- repped, though I can't in all honesty say it'll work. Leaving anonymous on who gets repped is little contradictory because then the question "What's the point for repping people?" pops up. It's to let others know who has good or bad reputation in the forums, and whether or not to associate/listen to the person in question is signified by his/her reputation. I say give it a shot and see how things work out, since it can't get any worse. Of course, other suggestions are welcome.

It doesn't tell others. It just tells you when you look at your personal profile.

Whoops, I think I misconstrued your idea and thought it was something else like a open messageboard, my bad. Now that I see it for what it really is, I think it could be improved on, or else it would still be pointless in my opinion.
I think that when someone +/- reps you, there should be an extra comment box which opens up that will allow one to comment on his/her reason to +/- rep someone. (No need for a new page.) That of course will go only to the person receiving the rep. When +/- repping someone, it should also be mandatory to state a reason why, forcing people to think about it before +/- repping people like crazy. This will somewhat ebb the random +/- repping by forcing members to write why he or she +/- repped him or her.
I take it that by "commenting", you don't mean from the thread post itself where people usually say, "I +/- rep you for blah blah blah."

The reputation system was first put online for completely different reasons than what it is used for today. But I think it is a great system for rewarding users that make good posts. I almost never give out reputation, which means every point that has been given has been done so by the users. I think it is really rewarding to see your reputation climb.
Since it has now become something for the users, by the users. I really want some more input on ways to improve the system.

Personally I would like a system similar to like, youtube, or something. But make it a way to get rep. In other words, instead of repping people, you rep their posts, and your overall rep is basically just your positive posts vs. your negative ones. That way it's not used as often to just crash the rep of people you don't like, and more of a way to punish specific bad posts and reward good ones.

That's actually a really cool idea.

I still think having the ability to add a comment to it would be nice.
Using the CAD-Forums as a reference again, this is how they do the comments:

It pops up after clicking on the little up arrow.

Yeah, I like being able to post comments, I've been on several forums that have had that setup, and as long as you're not an idiot and give yourself away in your comment it works fine.
But yeah, anything to take the focus off of giving rep to specific people, and changing the focus to the posts by the people is a good idea imo.

Also, similar to youtube, and sites like allakhazam or other such sites, it would be nice if once a post recieved a certain amount of negative rep, it would be set to auto-ignore. You could then click on it if you still want to see it, but it would automatically be hidden.
Would also be nice to have an ignore user function, but I think making it so posts that are seen as the community as a whole as useless being auto-ignored would be sufficient for most situations.
EDIT: I think that either this idea, or an idea similar to another forum I visit would work. Rep actually works there with a cooldown per person, and you have to give and take away. In other words, if you de-rep person A today, that means you have to wait a week to give or take rep away from them again, and you have to give rep to at least 1 other person before you can take rep away from someone again. This would prevent people from spitefully crashing other people's reps simply because of a personal vendetta against them or something of that nature.
