I just got -1 reputation on my 2 posts in this topic A basis for morality
And now I don't get what the idea is behind the reputation system.
I was under the impression that it was to give feedback on behaviour we regard as wanted or unwanted. If this is the case then I don't see the relevance of it used in serious discussion topics where it only serves as dislike button to hit when you don't like another persons opinion.
But maybe I see the reputation system in a wrong way, uf that is the case then can someone tell me the meaning of this system?

OP, Rep is basically a feedback mechanic. +1 if you say something someone agreed with or laughed at, and -1 for the opposite or if someone really doesn't like you.
Generally it's useless e-dick fodder that gets a lot of abuse. And the funny thing is people like yourself do get mad over it.

On topic: the rep system isn't as important as you think. If you are concerned about what people think, remember they are more likely to just look at your username and remember certain posts vs. go check your rep count.
Basically, if you want good repute, create one not based in numbers.

Because it helps to gauge whether a user is a good contributor or completely shit-tier in the eyes of the community.
I said Rep points are useless simply because they have no use other than that.

Just ignore the -reps. the -reps system on this place is highly abused so weather you do deserve it or not, sooner or later someone will just place it as a feed back.
