Rules Update
0
Can someone update the "Rules and FAQ" thread? There are some rules that needs to be cleared, mostly about bumping, I think.
In the current rules, it is said that bumping is forbidden, with no excuse. The same goes for necrobumping. Of course, normal bumping is allowed on IB. However, there are some contradiction on this rule, such as:
1. It is said that we may not necrobump a thread that's over 3 weeks old. That means to avoid necrobumping, we have to create a new thread with the same name. This is contradictory. While I and most old user know that this rule only applies to IB section, I don't think new users know, and they tend to create a new thread to avoid necrobumping, or maybe can't decide which one is right, necro or new thread.
2. For your usual bump, the rules said that spamming is strictly forbidden, such as just posting the word "bump" for the sole meaning of making your thread goes to the top of the forum again. While this rule may apply in any other section except IB, I don't think most newcomers know that this rule doesn't apply in Request section as well. While I was a n00b here, sometimes I am puzzled when I made a request post there, and it's been quite a while since I posted it, but there is no reply or the reply is not satisfying. What make me puzzled is, when such situation arise, what should I do, should I just create a new thread or just simply bump? Cause both of them are against the rule.
So the point is, we should make a clear line on where should these rules are uphold, and where they aren't, to avoid confusion to the new user.

Use the masterlists. No, that's not I mean. My point is to avoid the confusion between bumping or new thread.
See, the example is like this. I make a thread in Request section, but still has no reply or the reply wasn't satisfying. The thread is too old now or not in front page anymore, and I'm afraid no one would read it anymore, resulting in my request won't have any decent reply. In this situation, I am confused on these two options, bump thread, or make a new one. Well, I know that the correct answer is I should bump it, but it is an unwritten rule, and the written rules say that both bumping and double threading are forbidden. See, I bet some n00bs who actually cares about rules would be confused as well on what to do in this situation.

Yes, making the rules more specific would be good.
Specially "bumping" threads in the request section and other topics are an exception.

Then the best situation would be bumping your thread. Not like every few hours/minutes, but like every 2 days or so. That, or try and use the resources you know to look for it yourself.

As for ib and random I am not sure how the rule is applied but, in SD Necrobumping is acceptable if you actually add something to the conversation. Even if it was not explicitly stated it's been the general unspoken rule.
I believe the rule if not already like this should be changed to allow necrobumping if the necro post was contributing in a meaningful way rather than add "I agree"

I have taken the liberty to edit the rules a little, so that users will have a better understanding of when they are allowed to bump topics.
If you have any further suggestions or queries, please feel free to contact any of the staff members, including myself. Alternatively, you could continue to post in this thread.
Do not necro bump threads unless you have something to contribute to the discussion.
-If a thread is more than two or three weeks old, do not post in it. Make a new thread. This mostly applies to the larger forums, such as Random but can apply to other forums in certain cases.
- [Update by Gambler] As mentioned in bold, it is all right to bump threads as long as a user has something meaningful to contribute to the discussion. Examples include giving their thoughts and opinions on the matter, latest updates on an anime or manga title, etc. Simple replies such as "yes", "no", "quoted for the truth" etc do not count as meaningful in most cases.
