They disappear when you edit the Opening Post. It happens when you use either Edit buttons - the one in the post with Report and Quote, and the one at the bottom left hand side, next to Delete.
Also, I understand that the Edit button at the bottom Edits the thread rather than just the Opening Post as you can rename your thread, but you can't add or change your Topic Image with it.

[color=#993300]Yeah, this has happened to me to. My current understanding is because when you edit a post, it uses a different form than the one you use to create the topic. Thus, using different data formats??
