So you included an "All of them" option in the poll, then said you couldn't do all of them. Peachy-Butt Girls got 13% of the votes, the second highest amount yet it is not included in the sale. Punikano, with 4% of the votes, and Alluring woman, with a 2% total, are included in the sale.

What was the point of the poll if you were just going to ignore the highest voted ones?

Still, I would advise you to not ignore top results in the future. If you have things you want to put on sale, do it, it's your company and your decision. But if you ask your customers for their opinions and end up ignoring the highest voted ones to put out what you want anyway you're just going to piss people off which is never good for business, especially not when you're selling a product which can be easily pirated.

Edit: Digital only, eh? Well in that case I won't buy it for a bit anyway since I was planning on getting the paperback edition. Still think it's a bit of a cop-out since you said "One of our titles will be $5 for the digital edition and $14 for the paperback." and most people expected that to be the winner. But it's better than before at least.

As mentioned in the poll thread, there are some issues with putting something on sale that hasn't been released yet (specifically, having people cancel their preorders to take advantage of the sale, or else working out some kind of partial refund or revoking refunds to avoid it). I would count that as a legitimate reason for saying 'Sorry, we can't do that after all.' However, I am 100% with you that PBG, as the winner of the poll, should have been in the sale (as a digital) from the start.

First, I don't want FAKKU to think they shouldn't advertise their sales in advance. The specific problem here was the poll. If there had just been a topic saying "At least 1 book will be on sale. What book do you think should be on sale and why?", then there would have been some presale buzz while not forcing your hand on this.

This is an interesting question. Now it should be noted that the current way upgrading works is that you order the physical book, then ask FAKKU to refund your digital order. This would seem to prevent the $5 digitals from becoming $15 physical copies because you end up paying the actual difference from what you paid and not the flat $10.

I'm guessing that it would work similarly for gifted books, in that you can be refunded the money spent on your digital copy. So if you got a discounted book as a gift, you would end up spending $15 to upgrade ($20 for the physical, then get a $5 refund on your digital copy).

Yeah, I didn't think about that, it would be a little unfair to people who have already bought the book. So only digital going up for sale at this time does make sense.
