Things to note are that there are drastic, DRASTIC, changes in plot and design with new characters and a new plot. Trust me, this is more or an alternate universe than a retelling.
Also, Gainax seems to be following more with their more recent work like Gurren Lagann, in that Shinji is more of a hero and less of an emotional wreck. This is just my own guessing but I think that he may actually triumph over the Angels or at least have a more optimistic ending.

1) Will the HD quality versions work on my laptop? (Never really had to think about it, it's more of a internet/college laptop instead of media/gaming)
2) Can anyone recommend a good copy of the first film or should I just try my luck with Google?

Wow i just finished watching this movie.Fukn too Epic!!It's way different from the original series.Fk, this movie made me feel alot of emotions,This is officially my favorite movie of all time!

Now this is what I like to see, When I watched the original series so long ago, Shinji was immediately marked as one of my LEAST favorite main characters in a show....good to finally see that his balls dropped a bit in these new movies, and damn good movies might I add.
I usually watch dub, but this shit was way too good to pass up, hats off to you my good sir! Can't wait for the rest of these movies.
