Reputation Improvements
7
There has been a lot of discussion about ways to improve the reputation system on the forums. You can participate in these discussions in the Feedback, Suggestions, and Support forum.
One suggestion made by nacho has been implemented. If a post received negative or positive reputation it will now be displayed on the lower right corner of each post. This only applies to reputation points given from this point forward.

I also added some basic user brackets to the user profiles. I will be improving this over the next few days, I'm just far too tired to come up with anything more advanced right now.

I think that's a great improvement for the reputation system. Any chance we're getting a rep-log which shows us the posts for which our reputation got changed?

That's pretty brilliant without having to go into a replog. It doesn't tell you who did it, but knowing who did it is something that we're better off not knowing anyways unless someone wrote "I +/- rep you." At least with this we know what we get +/- rep for, which is much better than before. I 100% support this.
So I assume with this installment that the idea of a rep-log will forever be burned in the incinerator, never to rise from the ashes again.

Ah, at least we will know that a specific post got some rep. But I have to admit that I wonder if it would be possible to hunt down those posts. In my own profile, perhaps. To make me get the feeling what people wish me to write/do in order to gain more rep.

@moonflows: That's what a rep log is for, and I do not support having a rep log in any way. A rep log tells you where, what, and who repped you on what post and where said post is. This will lead to rep-whores, rep-wars, complaining, so on and so forth.
The point though is to show what you got repped for specifically that you know that you did a good job in appealing to others. I don't believe this was done to make users understand what made others rep them and learn from that to post more stuff that gained rep in the same manner. It's like saying, "Good job, here's what you got a pat on the back for," kind of thing without the intention of making users repeat said performance. And if that ever happened, the regular members would get wise and stop repping others in the same fashion in any case. If you want to find out what you got +/- repped for, search it yourself. I care not to see a rep log instituted in any manner. Admin Raze has said it himself no rep log for the very same reasons I provide you with.

The rep-log in a fashion like moonflows described wouldn't change the information we receive, it's just handy.

@nacho: Would it be worth searching the hundreds of posts that gave you the rep? I wouldn't think so. Most members are quite aware of when they get +/- repped, and usually it's because of some recent post/upload that he/she made. So why bother instituting the rep log? No need. The point is that you shouldn't bother searching, but when you do come across it, you'll know what you got repped on. This is not meant to encourage similar behavior to win more reps, or else we'd put in a rep log, which for the following reasons you quoted me on are why we shouldn't have a rep log.

I'll probably make something for the user profiles that has a list of the last 10 posts a user made that received reputation.

I guess then the only thing that makes this improvement not a rep log is that it doesn't tell you who repped you specifically. I dunno, it sounds too close to a rep log for comfort. I guess we'll wait and see, eh?

@Jacob: Yeah, I forgot that a rep log tells the complete history of who/what/where you got repped, my bad. (This is obviously stemming from a lack of encounters with the rep system.) I guess showing the latest 10 posts isn't so bad... maybe limit it to 5? Up to the admins anyway. I say 5 only because regular users like me don't get rep as often as uploaders do, so I'll be lucky if I can even get 1 rep a week.

I believe that such an implementation will serve to stimulate creativity among members, prompting them to come up with original replies instead of standard one sentences. Since my mind is rather tired at the moment, I am unable to think of any drawbacks, at least not for now. :D

That is some nice improvement, I'm sure it will encourage more user to post and contribute in the forum. Keep up the good work.

So I assume with this installment that the idea of a rep-log will forever be burned in the incinerator, never to rise from the ashes again. As I said before: Raze killed it and roughed up the body both pre and postmortem then through the carcass into an incinerator.
Also: Congrats Nacho for having an idea implemented
