YQII FAKKU Translator

With its 25th anniversary coming up in 2020, this is your chance to experience one of the grandes dames of the dating sim genre!

The main character is a single, nineteen-year-old Japanese college senior living in the fictional city of Meiai, forced out by his parents at the idea that independence may attract him a partner. On top of his quest to find a girlfriend, he is also indecisive about what direction to go in his academics. The game is played through a series of virtual days, consecutively spanning three months. At the start of each morning, players designate an activity to pursue for evening, night, and in the case of weekends or vacation, daytime: studying, practicing art, exercising, grooming, recreation, taking a break, going to work, shopping or fulfilling a promise. Each choice affects the overall being of the player at the conclusion of the day, and points are distributed among stats for passion, appearance, fatigue, scholarship, strength and art. Depending on the level of these stats, and the order of schedules made during particular days, the player will shift their romantic focus and possibly trigger nonlinear events and encounters over time. In addition, working generates income and shopping allows the player to voluntarily spend their money on items for themselves or to give as gifts.

Probably the first game of this kind I ever played back in the day and a true classic. I don't think I ever quite finished it, though, so it will be great to see this released by Fakku now. ^_^

This is very welcome, I too played this many many years ago, too long ago to remember how it ended, but I know I loved the game and played it several times. Would love to see more oldies like this come back, especially something like Divi-Dead.

Can't wait to get my hands on this again after all these years.
1
This is an old favorite of mine that I find myself going back to every few years, so a Fakku release would be quite welcome!

Updated the first post with the trailer!

I first played this back in 1999 when I probably shouldn't have been. I'll be very happy to get back into this.

Awesome. Release day purchase. Any hints on whether this is the only blast from the past we can expect, or will there be other classics getting the same treatment?

Not a classic, per se, but this game we're doing and it's retro-inspired at the very least.

I was very impressed to hear that True Love will complete its 25th anniversary in 2020, but I am very happy to hear that it will be released by Fakku, but I have a few questions.

What made the Fakku release again this classic? Was it someone from Fakku who also has a great fondness for the game, just like all of us?

Is the release of Fakku based on the 1995 Japanese version (PC-98), 1996 (Win95) or the 1999 English version (Win95 of Otaku Publishing, Ltd.)?

The version of Fakku will be compatible with newer OS, right?

Will this version use the same engine (Ikura GDL) or will it be a new engine? If it's a new one, I hope it doesn't break True Love random event system.

When release, what will be the description on the game page? Will it look like the old description?

"Do you remember your very first love?
That pretty girl outside the door that captured your heart from an early age? Or maybe that cute shy girl in your art class in high school? But maybe it was even your teacher who you just happened to stumble in on while being molested and who was happy for you saving her? Or maybe, just maybe, it was one cat who just happened to transform into a beautiful girl, due to their care and attachment as a pet owner had become naturally interested in you? Well if you are the main character of True Love, all of the above and even more, may be the answer to that question."

Any possibility of bringing the rare version True Love Select?

Which spawned several rumors at the time of a True Love 2, (but on Parsley's official website didn't mention that True Love 2 was planned and so people just mistook it for True Love Select) as this version featured 4 new characters.

Yesterday I saw this rare version here:

True Love brings me a lot of memories, and I ended up remembering two images created by asp on deviantart in 2011, which showed what a True Love remake would look like (if one day happens, as it was with YU-NO).
But even if a True Love remake doesn't happen, what FAKKU is bringing us now is a great gift.

I am so, so, SO happy that Fakku is re-releasing this game. It's one of my all-time favorites and holds a special place in my memories.

That being said...

Isn't there any way we could get a fresh translation of the game? The old clunky 90s translation has its charm, but it also makes the story more difficult to take seriously than it sometimes ought to be. I could be wrong, but judging from the screenshots, isn't this using the old translation?

Hoping for an official confirmation, but I guess this may be the case - otherwise it would be easily released already, after all.

The game is already out on steam it seems

Is the Fakku version going to be any different?

The steam release lists fakku as a publisher, so I'm guessing this is it. Will buy and play it tonight anyway, not expecting anything different from this release compared to all those years ago, but we'll see.

True Love was also a favourite game of mine back in the day. After reading your post I've been searching hard for any information on True Love Select. I think that if the second auction (sadly the first one ended) for True Love Select doesn't sell (it's already been relisted before) eventually it may be relisted again cheaper. 50,000 yen is way too much for me.

During my time researching, despite the fact Select was released around a year after the original's Windows port, I read that Parsley commonly released "Select" versions of their games as demos. I would have certainly bought it for 25,000 yen, so I'm glad I didn't get that chance if it's only a demo. It's a shame if correct because it'd be cool to see a deluxe version of True Love. I work with a small team of translators so I was hoping to look into translating True Love Select, if indeed it was an expansion. But for a watered down demo, not worth it. :(

Here's the text from the back cover of True Love Select:

パセリが贈る
コレクターズディスク第4弾!!

トゥルー・ラブで使用された全画像や
MIDIファイルを収録。
誰も知らない
トゥルー・ラブの全てがわかる。

I'm not a translator but apparently it says:

The 4th Collector Disc Given by Parsley!!

All images used in True Love,
Contains MIDI files.
Nobody knows
All True Love is found.

I don't get it though. "All True Love is found"? If it's a demo, some anime distributors do something similar: giving away DVDs that only contain the first four episodes of an anime, or something. They'd come in cases with no barcodes. I can't see a barcode on this. So unfortunately it looks like this is a short demo version with different characters for some reason...

I'm going to look into this.

One of my stretch goals for this game if it sells exceptionally well, is to port it to a brand new engine while keeping all of the original game logic intact.

This game looks really good so I decided to go ahead and give it a shot! But, I've run into a bit of a snag? Every time I try to install the game my computer's security: 'Kaspersky' deletes the exe files. Both True Love'95EXE and the Windowed True Love '95. The popup message says that "File deleted: disinfection is not possible". I'm gonna look more into this of course, but if anybody has any advice about this it'd be appreciated. This is certainly the oddest problem I've had installing games on my computer.

UPDATE

Alrighty, I rooted around a little and apparently the EXE files for True Love'95 were labeled as VHO.Virus.Win32.Agent.gen which appears to be some kind of Trojan virus, at least that's what the internet security on my computer thinks. Now, I do have a solution of sorts. I can just reverse the quarantine with a simple click but... I guess I wanna ask around just in case... Is my security behaving this way simply because the game is an older program thus it's being treating like a virus but it's actually fine? That's my guess but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help confirm my guess.

I can assure you that it is fine to run this file, it is exceptionally old source code that was tinkered with to run on modern systems, so I'm not surprised your software is giving it questioning glances. But it's all good.

Thanks! It's reassuring to get a second opinion. My security still isn't cooperating and keeps on deleting the game but I sent a message to their customer service so hopefully I can get it running sooner or later.
