Well considering how many people in the world are female, you've got quite a challenge ahead of you. Women are just people too, just like guys. Just be confident and you'll be fine. If it's a serious psychological issue though, I wouldn't be able to help with that.

I tend to do super conditioner soaks though, like when I shower I'll super condition my hair, and let it sit for about 10 mins, after rinsing and getting out, hair feels extremely soft :3.
Another reason I mentioned going to a professional! Less chance of messing it up.

Mom, you dye your hair fine without making it dry, easily broken, or split ends, but be sure that you won't dye it again in the near future (if you happen to find that you don't want your hair with that color for too long), because when you dye it too often, it will happen.... I'd suggest a 3 month interval at the very least.

I guess there's a lot of delicate material and wiring and intricate designs that they feel they can charge a lot for. It's at least a 50% markup on bras in stores, and I don't know about some stores specifically. Could be more for fancy places.
