The thing I don't like about Tekken are the special moves that can instant kill you, they're predictable, but can be used smartly.

The slow setup will confuse your opponent not to dodge it.

Right. Who's the best character for beginners? Steve is pretty hard to use for me, sticking with Hei for a bit.

Ummm....
Asuka, Lili, Leo, any tekken 5 and above shouldn't have too hard of learning curve because that's when they made the game a bit simpler and easier.
