A Reduction in Manliness?
-2
'Sup, minna! I've got a question for you all out there: Do you think male hentai characters are losing their manliness?
I was reading some vanilla as I often do when I came upon a realization... The male protagonist was a bitch with no guts and no calm head. Now, I'm not saying that it isn't acceptable to portray a male as a feeble character, but I would like to see a guy who can get the Vanilla job done right (I.e. Keep a calm demeanor, treat the lady respectably, and overall be chivalrous and gentlemanly).
I don't wanna say that it makes men look bad and like we're all just mindless gorillas (which, to be fair, we kind of are), but it is definitely cringe-worthy and awkward for me to read/see male characters just absolutely mutilate the proper order and steps of love.
What say ye? Isn't it about time actually act like men (in hentai)?!

I totally think that's kind of unfair to say because concepts of femininity, masculinity, and gender have been injected into our minds since our birth. And they aren't realistic, or real. But putting that aside...
I don't think that vanilla is a genre that would enforce these concepts that fall under masculinity. Since vanilla is usually romantic, I don't think they want any character to come off as too forceful. I don't read vanilla anyway (it's not my taste) so I wouldn't really know. Maybe read some more under the forced tag if you're looking for that??

Vanilla hentai often contain these wimpy male characters who lacks the traditional "male" traits. If you want to see some more manlinesss, then you should check out the other genres besides vanilla.

Don't get me wrong, I read other genres too. But if there was like a "James Bond" tag, wouldn't it be dope!? He's a guy who can read the mood as opposed to every other character that, well... can't. Know what I'm saying?

Damn that's a good observation. I've basically gotten to the point where I'm just happy if it's not an old fat creep as the guy.
While I wouldn't argue specific gender roles or characteristics (oh hello H-logic) it would be nice to have a more confident/competent/tough type of male protagonist.
