I'm thinking about getting into the Star Wars series. I remember watching the middle of one on HBO when I was a kid (but my mom changed the channel). At a Jr high after party, I watched a little of episode one and was almost a fan. I'll watch through the original trilogy, but what I want to know is if the more recent works funded by Disney are worth my time.

This would be the first Disney one. Pass that I seem to think you need to watch 1-6 to get the series. 4-6 for this movie alone.

Start of with the Christmas special.
But in all seriousness, give the books a chance. If you absolutely want to buy into the movie hypes just watch in chronological order. There's a lot of good edits that condense the movies while not keeping important stuff out.

Star wars is garbage, I don't understand why the public is eating this shit up. It's a cliche story + kool special effects + shitton of advertising and then Disney makes 2+ billion dollars.
On top of that the fucks at Disney are gonna milk this shit by putting star wars on everything and make toys little kids and fat neckbeard fucks will buy up in bulk. Fucking retarded.

Yeah every movie ever made was funded by a massive corporation designed purposely to cater to the biggest section of the general population to make the most profit possible. Yeah that describes everything alright.

Neither Netflix or Hulu have the star wars series available for streaming (aside from documentaries and spin offs). What the fuck am I paying them for if they don't have classics like those. Well, I have no choice but to pirate the series. Fuck spending $99 at Amazon to watch the whole series.

You're the one defending Star Wars right now though.

Pretty much. Read the books for the best experience, or watch the condensed edited versions. Otherwise watch it in machete order
'IV, V, II, III, VI'
Apparently the idea is this way it doesn't spoil anything like who darth vader is, and makes it a much better experience, which kinda makes sense.
There's a link to it in more detail: http://www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/
Has some minor spoilers in it though

I'm not hugely into it but have watched the films, including the new one.

Watch them in the order: 4-5-6 then 1-2-3 or the "machete" order if you can't handle some autistic amphibian and don't like cool races. 4-5-2-3-6. Honestly, you should go machete order to keep all of the surprises but still watch Episode 1 at the very end.
Books > Movies by the way.
Both of the Clone War cartoons were pretty good. The newer one had a few shitty moments but it was enjoyable (namely the Darth Maul arc). Star Wars Rebels was pretty shitty.
Read any of these:
Darth Plagueis (completely un-fucks Episode 1 and is probably the most informative and one of the best books in the entire series)
Darth Bane Trilogy (can be read without watching any of the movies)
Thrawn Trilogy (should be read after watching the original trilogy but watching them isn't really required)
Old Republic: Revan (should be read only after playing KotOR)
Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter (direct prequel to Episode 1. The ending was pretty damn good.)
If you want a really good horror read set in the Star Wars universe, read Death Troopers.
If you want the Star Wars universe that is not actually about the Jedi and is about the men fighting during the Clone Wars, read the Republic Commando series.
Play Knights of the Old Republic 1.
On top of that the fucks at Disney are gonna milk this shit by putting star wars on everything and make toys little kids and fat neckbeard fucks will buy up in bulk. Fucking retarded.
Obligatory fuck you, you sanic neckbearded rubber dick.
I do agree with you about Disney though. They can go fuck themselves with a lightsaber. But then again it's not like you know anything about the entire mess.

Except it can. Every series in existence has a fault. Your favorite cartoon isn't an exception.

In regards to the movies, machete order was mostly because the first movie has nothing of importance. You don't hear of anything that happened in the first movie again, and all the characters introduced either die, or don't appear again. It's also pretty terrible apparently.
I don't mind it, but it is right about nothing happening in it being mentioned/ referred to by the later movies. It's all just essentially a filler

Yeah, it is pretty terrible. Attack of the Clones is still the most cringe-inducing though. The fight scenes are good though and far better than the one at the end of AotC.

Honestly, you could watch just Episode 4 - 6 and not lose out on anything when watching Episode 7.
