Its like im playing battlefield 3 and man all that killing on there REALLY makes me wanna shoot up some elementary school like right down the road!

... I like how this argument is happening despite the fact that in this case, it WAS mind-boggling stupidity mixed with social irresponsibility. A mother gave her mentally ill child access to guns and gun training. It simply does not get any more irresponsible than that. Also... I don't recall ever hearing anything about video games, this kid was messed up - there's really no mystery here. O_o

And I'm sorry, but guns shouldn't be trusted in the hands of the irretrievably stupid. I don't think guns kill people, the moronic and mentally ill kill people. Therefore, there should be screenings for this sort of thing. Not 'oh, you want a gun? :D okay, here you go!'.

Well, to get a gun you don't just walk into a store a pick one up. You do need a valid identification, a clean background, and a proof of residency. You fill out an application with your information, which is sent to the NCIS and there is a waiting period. The only way for you to walk out with a gun is from the black market or even buying a military grade level weapon online. Sweden has less shootings and massacres than the United States and they are allowed to have full automatic machine guns and other high powered weapons, but with requirements.

I (tried) to play Shadow of the Colossus a day ago, and I suddenly just got the urge to stab the fuck outta rocks.

Yea, one time when I played Super Mario World, I felt like I wanted to jump on top of their head and stomp them.

Psyche screenings really should be part of the protocol... I also wish there was a way to test for 'Hey, ever think of handing the mentally unwell weaponry? 8D'

You can't force people to take a test, which they may or may not feel comfortable sharing that kind of information. Also some may view it as an invasion of privacy and people can easily pass the test.
Edit: People also view it as their own right to own a gun.

As much as I think the system is flawed I don't know if we can deny anyone we don't want their constitutional rights.

Somebody could invent psycho-pass scanners.

We should also have a system that tracks everyone's psyche levels and should have enforcers that carry out the laws. The enforcers should be given guns that transform depending on the Psyche level and only those with high level die :D.

I always wonder what happen if the psychotic pulls out the weapon say an uzi fast and the gun is still scanning. Wouldn't that be bad considering the slow response time

And those guns would shoot bullets that cause the victim to brutally explode from the inside resulting in blood and guts everywhere.

It does take a few seconds for the gun to scan, but it also depends on the enforcer.

I get what you guys are saying, but you have to admit, our shit.. is broken. It's not working. Sure, the chronically stupid and mentally ill will always find SOME way to get their hands on weapons, but still... I just.. It doesn't feel like what we're doing is enough. These events feel so.. profoundly needless. I know we're not powerless...

I think people blame video games for the same reason I feel frustrated. When this sort of thing happens, it's not so much that you want to point fingers... you want to be able to do something about it. If something can be blamed, something can be done. Less of this, more of that... Anything to prevent future loss of life.

don't know if it has been said yet but the mother of this guy was paranoid so she took him out to gun ranges to learn how to fire fully-automatic rifles and such, despite him having mental illness...talk about common sense, she should run for mother of the year.

inversely if I even talked about getting a hunting rifle my parents would kick me to the curb faster than you could say get a job
