My old computer recently died and I've tried taking it apart and attempted to figure out what everything is.
Is this a good way of getting myself familiar with computer parts, or do you think I'll just confuse myself even more?

You might as well, if you don't plan to use any of the parts anymore. Use an online guide to identify the parts, try taking it apart and putting it together again.
