First, you heard wrong. Hotaru is a girl, as assured bye the last page of book 3.
Second, Mistral and Mireille are entirely different people, Mistral being Mireille's mother. They have the same character design because the 'Mistral' avatar was handed down, and then the name of the avater was changed during the "Change the name" event, also revealed in book 3.

I'm talking about the sigs that ero and zeriam have. They show different sigs in one, like a slide show. I could easily just say a gif sig, but I like calling it a sliding sig. :] It sounds fun.
