I forgot.

in order to attract a new mate a cat will offer its current one to the preferred one in hopes to appease to it. Even if the the current mate and the preferred mate are both males.

I don't know why but this idea popped into my head right when I woke up from my slumber.. I know it has to do with my dream but this is all I can remember.
