I see. Well, okay. I first heard of that anime by word of mouth, so I looked it up on MAL to see the plot and the reviews of users. At first, I was reluctant to watch it because it might not suit my taste, and I want to avoid something that is currently on its popularity peak. Furthermore, it was still incomplete at that time, and basing from my past experiences, I would just leave it unfinished if I keep on waiting for its weekly releases. Though, in the end, I tried it for the experience, and to my surprise, I enjoyed watching it.
Like others who have already read/played the original material, I believe they are in the position to say what exactly are the downsides of the adaptation. I know that feeling because I was totally disappointed on the anime adaptation of Rosario+Vampire, since I first finished reading the manga before the anime. They left a lot of important events on the story, yet it still gains popularity among the audiences.
That anime is like the .hack// series, plus the god-like Kira Yamato of Mobile Suit Gundam, you know.. the typical overpowered character. Nevertheless, the story has its potential in the market, and I'm looking forward for the next season, which I have heard from my other comrades in MAL.

I would not call that particular "conflict" of the story as NTR, since the protagonist remained faithful to his partner.
I am not sure how to explain this without spoiling the anime, but it is somewhat like Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (see the plot), minus the NTR/Cheating part.
