Christmas stump

In an ongoing world of self-absorbed threads and comeback tours:

I am fucking stumped about what to get my brother for christmas. The kid is enlisting in April, so I wanted to get him something he can take with him, and he was major depressed when I left--so probably something we could use together.

Dude owns a 3ds, so I'm thinking a multiplayer game would be the thing. Probably not super smash, because he would have bought it himself.
The rub is, I had no plans to buy a 3ds before this, and don't know anything about the library. What games are there for it? Which ones do online multiplayer?


To open things up further, is anybody else stuck on a gift for another? Maybe we could work the brain trust, and save a christmas or two.

Tangible porn is a no. If the air force is similar to the army experience, then the "random" (meaning everybody, regularly) searches will find it---and they still have policies against that kind of thing. They're even enforced during training.

... yeah, that's all I can think of for online multiplayer on the 3DS. There's also Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate releasing early next year, but not sure if that'll be out before you brother leaves (definitely releasing after Christmas though).

For 3DS games, Pokémon and Kid Icarus: Uprising have online multi, and so does Luigi's Mansion: Dark moon. Fantasy Life does too I believe, though I know next to nothing about it besides that.

I've heard the concept for Fantasy Life, but has anybody actually played it? I'm not sure if he's for the Harvest Moon-esque chores, and I'm wondering if it's possible to play a more combat-oriented game with it.

(Or am I confusing this with Rune Factory)

Why the fucking fuck is he enlisting? Break his legs for Christmas so he can get a letter of discharge or some shit.

Because it's a route out of poverty for Black youth. The GI bill equals freedom to attend the college of his choosing, and the stable salary is a means to set up his household--rather than relying on our family's collective weight for everything.

The kid saw me do it, and decided that that was a good way to go. Well I don't agree that it is the way for him (He's both clever and athletic, just is no longer part of any organized sport), I'm going to respect his decision.


So, fuck you and your presumption that everything will be alright. This is how he's choosing to start his life, and it's probably a bit better thought out than your idea.

I suggest a portable DVD player, I know a load of people generally get them in basic.

So if he's a movie person do that and maybe get him a movie or two to go with it.

I recently bought the newish Mario Party for 3ds, it's crazy disappointing.


Edit: Absolutely nothing wrong with enlisting, it offers some great opportunities.

Pokemon X/Y or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire should keep him occupied for a while. You could trade and battle with him.

Though honestly once you are deployed you can just get video games at bases (that's assuming he even gets deployed outside of the US like my brother) so I would suggest something that he can only get in whatever state you live in.

Read up on what air force and army allows, and this is what you can get for him for christmas. Something that he can take with him to boot camp.
