Well Dark Souls has a pretty hardcore following. Pretty unrelenting from what I played of it, if you're not really committed to beating it you probably wouldn't enjoy it.
Then again you're in it for the world most of the time, so who knows you might like it. No clue about the second game though.

It's true if it's too unnecessarily hard, I might throw it away quicker....If you're willing to grind and you're really good at adapting then you should do fine.
