Had a talk with a friend who's not into comics and she also agreed it was tame and that the book itself would be fine with the new audience if it's not excessively violent like The Killing joke. She also said it was a bit insulting that female comic book heroes are coddled this much by fanbases, instead of making them capable but also "damage-able" like most well written characters. Even with plot armor a lot of well written characters are put in situations where they face some challenge or unmanageable ordeal where they suffer greatly. She also made an interesting point on how that's why it's a bit weirder to write female characters in cape comics, going outside of Joss Whedon's Black Widow(smart, strong and quick with witty retorts) is going to be hated by almost everyone. Putting them in compromising or powerless positions is looked down even less. I can see why but it's still a double standard most people need to move beyond.
I dunno, this is a dead topic already but it reminded me of this.

Thinking about the "drama" I think it was a learning experience.
I learned that if I'm making fun of someone for making fun of themselves unknowingly and for saying stupid things I'm being sexist and 3serious5me. It also makes me wrong for because I didn't let them bruise the ol' ego into making fun of them as a person instead of the things they do and say. And yes I realize the implications in bringing up this again.
:y
Let's not bring the drama back.
On the actual cover, I DO agree with you, sorta. My problem isn't with censorship, or self censorship because that will always happen, but mostly the fact that we whine and bitch about there not being enough women in comics, video games etc, mediums that were always thought masculine.
But when we do get a lead female character, she HAS to be the toughest, the wittiest, the strongest and of course, at least a little pretty. She can't have any vulnerabilities, she can't get bested, she, for the love of god, can NEVER be raped. So we get this unbeatable, beautiful character who never loses, and that well...that's neither real nor entertaining. I don't identify to a character like that, and if she hasn't gone through shit in life, how is she going to be tough? Plus, helloooo, booooooooooooring.
I don't know if you guys remember, but for the Tomb Raider reboot game, the one where she has a brit accent, there was controversy because she got raped or sexually assaulted or something. I thought yeah, that's logical, she's stuck on a fucking island, by her fucking self, the place is choke-full of bad guys, OF COURSE she's gonna get raped. That's reality, and she's even tougher if she gets past it. I can't remember if she did get raped or not, but you get my point.
Barbara Gordon gets bested, by a freaking super-villain who almost kills Batman, and who does kill a fuckload of people. That's not offensive, that's freaking strong, she survived it (ok, minus her legs but she's still alive). So if we're going to be feminists and yell about not having any female characters leading in 'masculine' media, we have to be ready to get as down as the male characters do, to get just as beaten and worse. So it's represented on a cover, a brilliant one at that, where you can see the freaking fear in her eyes, you can see the perverse smile of the Joker, but at least you feel something for that character, just as much as you would if Batman was on his knees, bleeding because the Joker bested him, a-fucking-gain.
TL;DR: Read the fucking thing you lazy asses.

Yeah, I'd figure it's best to drop it, which is why I edited it.
As for the the main point I get it too. For the Tomb Raider reboot the developers explicitly said that she won't get raped but that there would be scenes where the player would want to "protect" Laura. I can understand people wanting a comforting thing to read/play/see but wanting to child-proof everything is ridiculous. I also get that the new 52 batgirl isn't aimed at normal Batman readers but something this tame shouldn't have been controversial in the first place.

I'm not angry or frustrated, I'm actually very concern why the feminist is making a fuzz over a damn comic book cover. If these feminist keeps bitching over something that doesn't even matter or harm anyone, then what the fuck?

I'm a feminist not a feminazi.

Hahahaha like a japanese hornet that cracked me up. Also I've never met any femimazis IRL. Or even outside of tumblr and twitter and stuff like that. Like I've never seen anyone yell about stuff like that, maybe it's Europe?

I doubt anybody (or at least the majority) who claims they 'hate' feminism, hates it because of feminazis. People hate the stupid and hypocritical ideas people who identify themselves as feminist bring forth.
On a second note, why even need a label like feminism, why not simply talk about specific ideas, why we have to lump ideas into a label that are obviously going to be miss used?

Sure as hell isn't over here, especially in Britain we have some of the most progressive feminists I've encountered; IRL, on the Web and in literature. It's not the location but the medium that makes a "feminazi" for the most part, the nature of the internet creates a culture in which everyone says what they want, and most frequently the dumbest, most outragous and uneducated people are the loudest.

There was also the marvel uproar over the alternative art Spider Woman cover. I feel as though depiction of characters will always be controversial.

Has NOBODY been to Australia or America? The Hive minds of the feminazis breed like flies...
Not to mention Australia's "we are all entitled to be racist bigots day"
The day when people stop singling out "groups" of people will be the day things like this cease happening~

Right? I know anonymity makes people assholes, but if you take that chick from gamergate, anita sarkeesian, she's really out there, and not anonymous and just really loud. I guess the whole controversy gave her even more of a voice, but I'm always a little surprised by the violence of her words, as we do tend to go towards even more politically correct content (as proven with the self censorship of the cover).

Also, the artist Milo Manara, does notoriously scandalous work, so it didn't surprise me much to see controversy around it. You should read 'Click', it's hentai-level kind of weird, but in Italy in the 1980.

I don't think it's bad to label it, and you're right we shouldn't lump things together. But a word already existed for a fight that's been continuous, so why not use it, without its derogatory meaning?

Eh, didn't we have this discussion before?
Pretty sure you have tons of shitty ones over there in Britbong land. Plus it's not radicals that are the problem, they might have a bigger platform with the internet but most people don't listen, they don't influence public policy. Crazy chick (or guy) might get some attention for saying something stupid but what's the point if no one really agrees, or does anything to support that view?
You might be the problem if all you can do is point at idiots no one really pays attention to (other than to call them idiots), rather than try to make reasonable change within the political sphere known as "feminism". Also they tend to spring around most western nations who don't have a mostly homogenized demographics. Well mainly in their university halls.

She's not really out there in terms of her views, mainly misinformed, or heavily reliant on cherry picked examples to prove a point. And to be honest, she was banking on there being backlash and blind hatred on both sides. I wouldn't outright call her a con-artist, but she knew how to work both sides, and man was she successful. I think she's losing her touch though, since almost everyone thinks her latest video was blatant advertisement to a friend's game. Ironic she choose a character with no personality or agency as a "good female character".
I've seen a lot more louder, harsher, political, provocative critique/analysis of games from other feminist, who don't get anywhere near the attention she does.

But a word already existed for a fight that's been continuous, so why not use it, without its derogatory meaning?I understand that it might be easier for people to relate and unite under these words and labels like feminism and atheism, so on and so fort. Specially when these labels already exist. And it might be harder to get people together if you call yourself a "For equal pay to both genders in same jobs" type of person rather than "I fight for feminism". It certainly is more powerful for a movement to be about more than just one issue or idea.
I just personally think people get way too easily side tracked about issues when they join movements, sometimes people join just so they can be part of a movement that closely resembles their own believes even though they might not agree with some of the ideas the movement brings forth (for example women joining feminist groups simply for the fact because they are women). Also when a movement grows essentially (too) big, the original ideas that started the group are over bloated to mean too many things and some cases becomes self contradictory (like feminazis who don't want equality, but simply more power to women at the expense of men).
