Am I the only one who still uses their phone as a phone?I still have a normal blackberry with no internet or applications of any sort.
The only apple product I have is the first generation iPod nano with 4gb of memory.

Had a ipad.. meh had no problems except very low powered for price. You never really specified the model of your iPod, so I can't comment much on that, but I really want to make a point about the iPad's DAC, which you painfully misunderstood... The output is not shabby at all clocking in at 0.99V rms at maximum volume, and noise and distortion figures are low. THD+N and IMD is in general, much lower than the industry standard you find in Sansa, Samsung etc.
Square waves and impulses on the iPad are pretty much the same as the iPhone 4, and we all know that's pretty excellent. It uses a minimum-phase type filter. The 5G iPod with the Wolfson DAC is probably superior in this regard, but compared to everything else that isn't made by Cowon, the ringing takes much longer to decay. It doesn't exhibit pre-ringing either.
It has a really decent amp too. It has a 16-ohm load, and you have up to 570-580 mV rms for a 1 kHz tone before the THD+N goes above 1%. THD+N and IMD are much lower at typical listening levels with portable smartphones or tablets today. To be blunt, the amount of distortion and stereo crosstalk is nearly non-existent...and because of that it has low output impedance. That's the main reason why you find them quiet, especially when you compare it to some older iPods or cheap Chinese MP3 players which are of higher impedance. A lot of entry-level headphones are designed for them, so go figure.
Start using quality IEMs that are of lower impedance and you'll find the iPad to be a much more pleasurable listening experience than its competitors - what you pay is what you get. Chances are it might even be better than your computer if you don't have a dedicated sound card or use a USB DAC. I know my ears hate it when I plug my IE80s directly into the MacBook Air compared to the iPhone 4s/iPad. The noise is awful - and same goes to the other two phones in the photo at the beginning of the thread. The iPhone/iPad DAC beats them all.

First gen nano. Technical specifics of voltage, DAC or any techno babbles can be construed to any favor Neg or Pos. Since we're all analog made i can't argued the digital specifics of wavelengths, pulse-code modulation and digital signals. I can only argue the sound quality of the nano puts out vs the other forms of sound quality of the Juke, Itouch Chocolate and Sony disk man. Which in the iphone and itouch are better but still lacking in the high end( cost vs quality). More of a personal value over hive mind mentality. I'm not the only person to say the ipod audio was rubbish. Either your a audiophile, normal person or a fanboy when it comes with the ipod( which im a normal person.. i just want to hear the music clear at a decent level). I'm not saying all ipods are shit, but the nano first gen made me not to want to buy another ipod and since my phone has excellent quality and i don't need the more then 6 gb of music on my mobile/mp3 player and i can stream from the net with my phone anyways, the ipod storage superiority isn't in my necessary field. I do like the iphone since it's both.. but the iphone is shit here where i live since att has the worst fucking coverage since nextel. Even thought my cell company has the iphone on it's coverage.. still a little dainty hipster mobile status symbols here like the ipad. Not because the product is bad.. just the market base here. I rather not be seen as one or socialiated with. People still get stomped for being posers and emo here.
Back on the att... 4 g in five places in this state.. with in five miles of the center. Verizon has total coverage of 4g with in the civilized parts.. i don't think i can get 4g in the deep woods.

First gen nano. I know and admit that every single iPod nano ever made sound horrible. We can agree on this - it is a fact after all.

A lot of nerds see it in their wet dreams, you know. So yes, I think I can be considered an audiophile.

The only iPod Apple made that is up to par with audiophile standards is the iPod Video 5G. Every other iPod is practically worthless. This doesn't include the iPhone and the iPad, which as I said are pretty good. Aside from that they're pretty much ****.
Apple is my favorite tech company, but being an audiophile, I cannot deny that the iPod line doesn't do well when it comes to quality sound.

In reality, most Apple haters don't even have a clue what they're talking about, just like how most "Apple fanboys" are just Fandroids acting stupid, and giving Apple users a bad name.
