So Matt/Yamato's dad seemed to know all about Gabumon. They never explained this. There were also 8 digidestined before the 8 in the first season tv show.

It makes total sense! Obviously all the Digidestined are Inter-realted!
That means that each one is a decedent of all the others at once.
Not only is their Mother a combination of all other Digidestined, their father is also all other digidfestined combined
So Matt must be the son of all other Digidestined combined, like the Grandfather Paradox, but x10000 and about your Father AND Mother
So Matt's Dad is ACTUALLY a conglomeration of all the other Digidestined to EVER exist, thus why he knows about Gabumon.
How do we know this? Time passes slower in the Digi World, and Digimon have all kinds of weird powers. Obviously, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED!
