A Japanese historical proverb
If in Azuchi Castle a bird would not sing
(Tokugawa) Ieyasu would simply wait peacefully for the bird to sing
(Toyotomi)Hideoyshi would use his skill to persuade the bird to sing
And (Oda) Nobunaga would kill it.

Not exactly the same translation, but that quote is in my Japanese History book. Was something about the differens of personality between those three and how they acted to become shoguns =)

Yes and it works I mean Tokugawa did come into power more of less because of his uninvolvement with the Oda regime in their last years. If he would have stayed a subordinate the course of history of the country could have drastically changed.

From Shingen Takeda
Treat your soldiers well and they will follow you into battle
Treat your soldiers as your dear friends and they will follow you into war
Treat them as your brothers and they will follow you to death
But if you treat your soldiers as your own cherished sons they will follow you to the very depths of hell.

Lure with bait
Strike with chaos
Attack where unpreparerd
Appear where unxpected
Ultimate Excellence lies
Not in winning every battle
but in defeating the enemy
without ever fighting.
