I was thinking about stating saving up for a plate carrier and plates.I would definitely say you invest in that. Never know when ballistic plates can come in handy. I've used mine to toboggan down a dune before.
Ceramic ones? Aren't they pretty fragile?

Thanks for that. I seldom get admiration for what I do, not that it matters though. I hope I get to RP with you a later date, there were barely any around when I was back in Oz. Likewise, I'd like to hear a lot about you from Val. Always good to see another serviceman.Yeah, even if I'm just serving my 2 years, it's been an enriching experience. I highly respect people who sign on as regulars, my own cousin is a regular in our armed forces. Hopefully there will be one RP, ya?

Yeah they kinda are. Composite plates hold out a little better though. Thankfully I could still use it after that.
@Noobs, Oh your National Service then? Well that's certainly a good attitude to have. I've met a few who just act disgruntled throughout the whole thing and really if your attitude is shit, your experience is gonna be shit. I'm hoping there'll be one by the time I get back. I'll be a bit more sad if I come back and there's a ton that are too late to join though.

Well different materials have their ups and downs. Personally, if it weren't for the scorching heat, I'd have opted for steel plates. Russians have a helmet for their SF that's NIJ IV and made of titanium plates, bloody expensive and dunno how well soldiers would do with that on.
EDIT: Sfera STSh-81s were what they were called. The new SSSH-94 is made of steel though.
Anyway, I'm gonna have to leave you guys now. Nice seeing you all again.

I think they will have boiled eggs instead of brain in Africa... But in Russia I think that might be something else.
