Need a new sword.

You can get new shield and sword if you go to New londo gates through the forest. You will meet wyverns with thunderbreath though.

Evading all ang grabbing a sweet shield and a sword that does blessed/holy damage.

Get homeward bone.

You can find that route if you stay right when coming from Andre/blacksmith towards forest. If there is a black.knight in the way, you are on the right path. It should be BEFORE hydra and the crystal golems. Stay at the narrow pathway until you find it.
