whyStart of working week again.
at my old job i normally had Mondays and Tuesdays off but i did work the weekend.
new job, rota is changing every week as the store isn't opened yet and opens in few week so its just been getting people in when they can to get the store stocked and ready for opening.
But last week they did some updates to the main warehouse where our stock comes from, some updates where new software/computer and some building works, so it meant where wasn't getting the stock in, so people had to do contract hours (the highest they give is 16 for sales assistant and 38 for managers).
so this week and next week is gonna be contact hours, but on Monday i gonna start at 6pm because they are gonna get the builder to take the boards down, that cover the store so no-one can peek in and cover the windows with signs (to stop people looking in) the sign just say opening soon, so it meant 2 sales assistant and 1 managers has to be in as they are expecting to finish late

I do prefer my weekends off though.doesn't really bother me but i would like to have at least either a Saturday or Sunday off.
am gonna stick with this job for a bit, as i see it as a opportunity to move up to be manager, at the moment am on a 16 hour contact but up until after Christmas there is gonna a lot of over time.
at my last job i was also on 16 hour contract but was doing anything between 24-38 hours per week.
plan is to move up or look for a second job or a job that offers a full time contract, in my area and lately most retail company have adopted zero hour contract/ low hour contract but give overtime to match full time/ or hire through agencies.
sleep tight looky

Zero hour contracts are pretty common now. Our country tried to ban them earlier this year but it didn't work.
My hours are fixed but I do get overtime sometimes when others take annual leave.

i would like a full time fixed hours but the places in my area that offer this are offices, but i cant see my self stand at desk doing a 9 to 5 job, and i like retail as it different each day and you get to meat different people.
the other places that offer full time contract are super markets but with them you need to apply online and do the test online before they offer you a interview and if you fail the online part the log it onto their system and say you cant apply with in six months.

Well yeah, that's true.
I would never work in a supermarket.

I would never work in a supermarket.
with supermarket it will get boring soon,
working in a shop that is in a shopping centre is better as you different people coming and going, where as a supermarket it always the same people and the same stock.
where i used to work and where am working now they both discount retailer so the stock is always changing but the down side it is lower paid where as supermarket has a higher pay per hour.
wouldn't mind working in technology/electrical shop like currys or maplin

Plus a lot of their contracts are temporary too for busy seasons.
I work in an office building but not doing office work so I lucked out really.
I've often thought about working there too. They never seem to be hiring though.

its all about luck, when people get into supermarket as full time they mostly leave when they can move up, most supermarket look after the staff so they are unlikely to leave.
where or not you have a nice manager, if you get on with the manager, then they want to push you up.
if i where to do a office job it would be one where i get to move around, go to different part of the office or to other offices where you show/train the newbies
