I feel that is a more valid reason as opposed to your 'sub-choice' reason for not watching tons of shows that I am watching/have seen. xD

Case, not episode, and I doubt you'll get much of the earlier cases now. And honestly, considering the connections between the episodes so far in the cases where they've jumped back a bit, it's definitely better to watch them in the proper episode order.

And damn, I can't talk about the episodes if you don't watch them... :D

Still, in the end, it doesn't even matter. Whether you watch them in the order of episodes or insist on the order of case numbers, you still won't start with 8/20 but only see it as the 8th, possibly even 9th episode if they keep up the usual rhythm and take a step back after this.

Why is it in a messed up order?

I really wouldn't say it's a messed up order, other than the first episode's case 13 providing a start in medias res. After that it goes to the start of the story, followed by episode pairs where the second episode in a pair is a slightly earlier case that is in some way related to the first and usually provides a bit of background information for a character in the first, usually something that the characters would not have actually known in the first, therefore avoiding showing you more information than they would have had by doing it in this order.

Prefer a standard order.

I'd say this one works better the way it is. With the possible exception of the first episode that likely is put there simply to catch more attention by showing more action right from the start.
