Well if it happend after the windows update, just boot it in safemode and then look for the system recovery and try to pick the time before the update, if it works then, you know its the issue and dont install that update :)

Tried booting it in safe mode earlier, wouldn't actually load up. Just stayed stuck with the little windows symbol on the black background.
Had to happen only a few days before Mass Effect, didn't it?

Dont give up yet, it could be a bios problem after the update.

I did have some, but they all moved away for University.
I would try some of these but it all sounds too complicated and I don't want to make it any worse.

That's what I would do, but I don't wanna lose my save data lol
pull out the HDD and plug it into a HDD case and copy the data to a different HDD
