Should be decent places to start in terms of tutorials. I've done cleaning before and it's good to practice on doujins. Also try to learn how to redraw (so you don't get those awkward white boxes).

Well, It's not the easiest thing in the world anyway, honestly Cleaning and typesetting give me huge headaches sometimes (Mostly Cleaning...Ugh, I can't redraw so sometimes i get a real headache), translations are the least of my problems when working on a project.
Anyways, Good luck man, if you plan to start up something like this!

What I've always wondered is where you guys find the untranslated scans.
Also how do you even scan a book, I imagine you'd have to slice the pages from the bindings to get it to lay flat?

Either cut the pages out of its binding, scan it with the binding (the most annoying), take pictures with a camera or use existing raws. (For manga you need permission of the raw supplier)

Cutting the pages is such a waste though. You can actually clean raws with the binding, it just takes quite a bit of redrawing.
If your camera is good and your angle and spacing is fine, then just a bit of editing will make it perfect.
Existing Raws, well google them i suppose.
