For those who don't know the late George Carlin, go watch some videos of him doing his routines on Youtube, since he passed away I'll expect some HBO re-runs of him.
I really like Dave Chappelle even though he hasn't performed since probably his appearance at the Laugh Factory and cancellation of his show. I don't think he's overrated and is a true man that isn't in it for fame. His stand ups are funnier than his sketches imo.

Well its cause he didnt write those sketches.
He was a good stand up person for a while, but he just lost his ideas later on. His most recent stand ups arent really good anymore.

It was probably a drain on him to have to come up with new material every week. After a while you brain just can't churn out A grade material then it'll start producing B Material then it'll just keep going down hill. You r not really meant to churn it out like a factory. Comedy is an art form and art can't be manufactured. True are is a piece of your soul. Eventually, you give away all the piece of your soul (i.e. you run out of ideas)

Mitch Hedberg, he's shy, yet he still goes through with his jokes. I was actually at one of his shows where he turned his back to the audience.
In this one, he inadvertently misses grabbing the mic in the beginning due to either his nervousness or the fact that he's high:
szstoner... you are my hero.
i love mitch

I almost forgot about Stephen Lynch, that guy's hilarious. For all who know what I mean, who wouldn't want to party with Craig Christ?

I have to agree with:
Mitch Hedberg
Zach Galifianakis
Lewis Black
and also throw out Dmitri Martin:
And Daniel Tosh:
Most overrated comedians?
Dane Cook (hyper, retarded, awkward, just runs around on stage and steals jokes):
Carlos Mencia (not even a comedian, just does political commentary that he steals from other people (skip to around 7 min in for the big reveal)):

Toss up between John Cleese and Tommy Chong. My two fav comedian groups are Monty Python, and Cheech and Chong. Different enough so that I can't make a choice, but hillarious none the less.

know all of them and atze aint good. now mittermeier and schmidt, those are comedians.
anyway...
george carlin is like the godfather of all comedy and now theres a comic vacuum no one will be able to fill...not even all of them put together
the main reason i like him is because he just kept it going, kept it real and fresh till his last days. this guy made me actually reconsider the notion of growing old, it aint all that bad if you can mentally stay in shape like this guy did.

I get what you're saying about the vacuum, but the one comedian that I would say comes closest to filling the position is Lewis Black.
