Sad to hear, I could never be in a relationship with someone who didn't accept my hobbies, and if it came to me almost shedding a tear about it- the relationship wouldn't be worth it to me.
My gf and I are both pretty extreme otaku- we even read doujinshi together, so I guess I don't have to worry about being in your case- but my ex was pretty negative towards even some non-hentai series/images/manga! I thought my world ended when we broke up, but now I've realized that it's so awesome to not have to worry about that, because my gf accepts me for everything, plus she's nearly the same as me. XD
But I have a major rule with myself- let someone know everything there is about you when first dating- if they can't accept it all, then bai bai. :D But that's just my philosophy.
I really hate to hear cases like yours. ;-; All I can say is, that's too bad.

In all seriousness, you had to make a management decision. It was either stick to your long-term low income investment, or go with the very appealing, possibly short-term, high income investment.
