HELP fellow Fakkuzas! I took a 500mg pill of Amox

I'm 21 and 160lbs. I have a sharp jaw pain and a bit of swelling, so I thought I might have an infection. My dentist is closed today and tomorrow, so I can't even make a call.

My folks (both very fat) gave me a 500mg pill of Amoxicillin, fresh and on of theirs, and told me that I can take another one tomorrow before seeing the dentist on Saturday. I took it with a glass of water.

Now, I go online and read more on what my folks said was a safe medicine and I hear stuff about kidneys and see warnings everywhere!

Seriously tell me if you know: Just how stupid was what I did?

Can I not out on taking a 500mg Amox pill tomorrow without any negative consequences?
If I did take another one tomorrow, what could happen to me when the doc prescribes (if it does turn out to be an infection) a lesser dose of Amox?

Amoxicillin has been used for quite a while, and has been a fairly common form on antibiotic. 500 mg is not a particularly large dosage for antibiotics. As far as side effects, etc - I don't honestly know, but chances of side effects from a single dose are extremely small.

Two better questions, why would you take someone else's prescription meds - never a good idea,and why would you come here for medical advise? If you develop a severe reaction go to your local emergency room otherwise just use a little common sense.

sSide effects that some thing may be wrong include hunger, tiredness, thirst, and further pain in the area that applied for.

I taken 2000mg. 500 would hurt you. 200mg twice a day is the normal dose for tooth aches and infections.. just don't take more. Also the more you take antibiotics when not prescribe.. the more chance of you dying from your own strain of resistance germs.

Or for adults: 250mg q8h by mouth and in more severe infection: 500mg q8h or 875mg q12h PO

Q8h= every 8 hours
PO= latin for by mouth.

If you're seriously concerned, induce vomiting or call the poison control helpline.
That or follow the directions on the bottle for in case of misuse. Lots of water, etc.

Or call a doctor, really.

I have 1000 count bottles of 800mg Ibuprofen, Amitriptyline, Neurontin. Three scripts 5/500 hydrocodone(which i never use) and two insulin pens. It's cheaper to buy bulk on mexican pharms. Also moms has a shit load of antibiotics and other shit. It's nice to have a doctor in the family and a dentist.

Meh you'll be fine just don't take birth control pills , large amounts of mineral supplements, or anticoagulants if your really that worried which you shouldn't as even 2500mg wouldn't be life threatening*. If your prescribed amoxicillin at either a lesser dosage or at a higher rate of intake then your still good.

the proper dosage for that is 20-50 mg per kilogram of body weight divided in two to three doses within 24 hrs, in a span of seven to ten days. other doctors increase this to 50-80 mg for severe infections and increase it to 10-15 days.

160/2.2= you are almost 72 and 3/4 kilograms

you're safe... in the dosage. but you know what's more dangerous?

you drank an antibiotic and did not administer the right dosage. that amount of medicine is not enough to kill and remove the infection, that kind of stupid mistake creates antibiotic resistant bacteria and pathogens.
