Spoiler:
You can chill with your friends on about any other day as well.
Does anyone else think that it's fun to have an excuse to get everyone together and have a good time?
Celebrating your birthday can be a lot of fun. I don't really get why you all think there's no point.
I can start with Schopenhauer here, but... oh well, here goes.
Schopenhauer thinks that life is suffering; and birth is therefore the beginning of all suffering.
Celebrating the beginning of all suffering doesn't seem worthwhile to me.
It's not really celebrating when you're just using it as an excuse right?
Edit:

That just seems like a very unnecessarily depressing way to view life.
But I feel as if we derailed the thread enough, so I'll just say that there is a lot of good to be celebrated in life and celebrating it on your birthday (along with just having a fun time) seems like a good way to go.

...that kinda defeats the point then. But some people celebrate just about everything. Hey, I got an F on an important exam... let's go hit the bars!

I kinda have a split personality in that regard... one part tells me to fuck it all, one part tells me how wonderful life is. Until shit kicks in and the other side wins again.

@Nash: But this is just celebrating your birthday. It's not bad to say "let's have a good time because I was born and you guys are my friends and we made hilarious memories together", right?
Until a good thing happens and the cycle repeats itself. It's the way life goes.

Okay, scratch that and look at the rest.
"let's have a good time because you guys are my friends and we made hilarious memories together"
And if you still want to look at the whole being-born-is=the-beginning-of-suffering thing, then you can say you're celebrating the fact that you found people who's company you enjoy in this bleak and pitiful excuse for a wonderful world.

Life doesn't work that way. For me.

Well, that's better... but it's not really a birthday party anymore I guess :D

But that means you're saying you're in a perpetual state of depression and a life-sucks attitude because nothing good happens to get you out of it.

Aww. I'm sorry. I'm just trying to make a point that obviously life does go that way for you otherwise that other side of you, that one that deems life worth living, wouldn't be there because there would be nothing to sustain it.
