They're infamous because for some reason, people like to train them to be killing machines. Dog fighting rings, irresponsible owners.. etc. People have it in their heads that it's the fault of the breed [They have a vicious bite to begin with], when in reality anything is going to turn out mean if you treat it like shit. :/

Tame it without the knowledge of your neighbors, then some time later, put that dog inside your neighbors' house

But, yeah...my backyard's too small for me to keep him in, so even if I do train him, he'll still have to stay over at my sister's until I can get my own house, which won't be for a while.

You more likely to be maul by a Chihuahua then a pit who isn't train to kill. Pits are only aggressive to people trying to fuck with his pack or children. My cousins use to ride mine like a fucked up horse. Which at 100ib .. he a tiny pony.
