One reason why people cry over anime or hentai is that they feel an emotional connection to either the character or situation such as an abused person may find abuse in others heart wrenching for they have experienced it themselves. I certainly have cried over a few myself although it may be because I'm a little bit more sensitive than most, but mostly because I can relate to the characters.
