I try to use them sparingly in a forum environment like this, but I think on Facebook or IM it's more of a problem, since you're often posting messages in real time, and obviously unlike actually talking you can't indicate a joke via the tone of your voice or something good or bad via a facial expression. Forums give you a bit more room to manoeuvre, where as those kind of necessitate it. I agree that some people use them waaaaay too much though.

If you'r a filipino you will understand. EVERY FREAKIN POST HAS TO HAVE :)), it's becoming a trend to put that in every post here at the phils. damn the bandwagon
