God... This is like the fifth argument over car audio in the passed week.
Although, for some reason, cars in general and any hobby branching from it seems to have so many people who 'Have been in the industry longer than you've been alive' and yet give wrong/ horribly bias advice.
It's bad to let the bad info pass along, and kill it for others, but at the same time, from an outside point of view, it can kill the hobby for them. But, goddamn. I'm actually genuinely surprised at the amount of people who have no idea what they are talking about in anything to do with cars, spouting bad advice, whilst thrusting their experience proudly in your face.
If I've learned anything from arguing with people, it's that as soon as you mention your experience in the field, you've pretty much lost the argument. You can't form an argument, so rely on your experience to try and end the conversation, or get a leverage point or something.
Which is why I never mention my experience in the field.
It's funny though, I know the basics, but with this last one, he kept saying my arguments were 'Google replies' -which usually implies they are right- and following them up with me being wrong (with no base, just stating I'm wrong, and insulting me. another good signal they've lost the argument). But, didn't touch google once, spewed my basic knowledge (half funded by common sense/ logic) and he kept shooting it down without anything against it, other than saying I'm an idiot/ 'newby'
If it wasn't deleted now, I'd screenshot the whole thing, but man. It's stupidly common, too. People giving horrible advice, and others listening to them, then something goes wrong, and the person who gave them advice has no idea.
The throes of being a car audiophile/ hobbyist in places that aren't primarily aimed at car audio.
And before you go 'but if you only know the basics, how do you know they are wrong'
When people screw up the basics/ give terrible advice, you can tell. The basics can take you a long way. Probably more so I used to sit on a car audio forum constantly, absorbing the arguments taking place there/ any conversations about these types of things. Quite handy. Never cease to learn things from that hobby.
And now inb4'ing 'isn't that bragging about experience' You could probably say that.
And no, I wasn't arguing with the op for once. Op deleted it, I'm assuming because the other dude just kept resorting to insulting me, and not aiding the discussion (I was answering the op's questions as I was going)
Appologies for the terrible blog, but it didn't fit anywhere else. Figured you guys would know what I'm talking about.
I suppose I'll end with a question;
What to you, signals that you have won a debate or argument? Insults towards you? Dropping the subject? etc

You win any argument once they lose their cool, you provide facts to back your point up, or in terms of opinion when the large majority of people agree with you(not that it means you're right, you're simply the winner in terms of internet arguing).

I like to prove people wrong within their own arguments, so when I make them say their own points are conditional or don't make sense I know I've won.
In more mature discussion it's when I can show somebody another facet of the subject at hand, one that they've usually not considered.
In places like IB I know I've won when I call them a faggot more, fgt.

I giggled at femijimmies.
How's your body? Can I have pics? Nude pics?
Tumblr will ALWAYS be better than any other site anyway, so I can't really say about 4chan.

Albiet I had one person backing me up (which the guy didn't think).
Still, it is just an argument over the internet.
Hard area to help people though. I wonder if IT is as bad in terms of terrible advice being given

You did well though. Having to battle 5 cancers probably saved more people then you think.
