You said you wore eyeglasses when you were in eight grade. It must mean your eyesight became bad along the way. As for the cause, I don't know either. Probably exposure to light. Light from computer, cellphone, and sunlight itself.

I am not sure if it has a significant factor on the development of eyesight problems. However, I do know that our eyes also need rest, otherwise eye strains may occur.
