Nope, did occasionally visit the border guards and stay over on the western border towns.
Did not encounter any of that stuff while I was there. I was mainly charged with humanitarian escort missions as in escorting food distribution convoys, mine clearing sappers and construction.

Mine clearing? Maybe there was a conflict before Timor independence, can't remember it since it happened long time ago.

But I heard it's still peaceful at there right now. Not much conflicts anymore. All conflicts now moving to Arabian lands lol.

Yeah, it's pretty peaceful there now. Only fighting I got into then was a blue on blue incident with the TLDF.

For most untrained people, yes. For soldiers, we're somewhat adapted to it. In fact, I wear a similar, if not heavier, load out for my work which I have worn in Ethiopia without problem.
