I prefer melodic death metal anyway.
Clean vocals, cleaner riffs, not as...well, hard to listen to if you're not used to.

Slipknot is a terrible example anyway.
All of the fans I've met have been 15 year old whinners who think wearing eyeliner is cool or something.
Try Fear Factory out. Industrial metal, vocals are a tad harsher then you're used to probably, but there is a ton of clean vocals, and Bell has a really nice voice.
Basically FF is a stepping stone to heavier music. Almost every metalhead will say that.

Slipknot is soft compared to most Death Metal.
What I linked up earlier is Technical Death Metal. Simillar music, but they don't focus on the, rape, maim, kill, burn, etc. Lyrics regular Death Metal has.
Instead they focus on the technicality of the music. Hence the name.
