Difference with most of those is, the story changes/ they are slightly - majorly different. And/ or progress with the story. Pokemon is the same old every time.
That being said, I still find it fun as shit. And the story is slightly different each time. Still same goal, but the enemies differ, their motives differ, etc etc
I have all of first and second gen, and crystal is still my favourite. Need to get me a GBA, so I can actually play them >.>
And then get all the GBA ones, too

Pokémon - Get 'mons, fuck Gym Leaders.
Fighting games - Beat the crap out of everyone. lolstory.
Shooters - Shoot the zombie space nazis. Capture some flags.
Final Fantasy - Grab your girls and girly-boys and go fight crazy-looking monster-things. Gil and grind.
Mario - Jump around. Jump around. Jump up, jump up, and get down.
Really, almost any long-lasting series is going to have it's fair share of repepetitiviness eventually.

I'll sometimes spend 30 minutes straight just thinking of funny names for characters in games.
It's so worth it.
Also: my avatar was just drawn and released today. A tsundere and an airhead conjoined. Why has there not been a manga with the concept.
