There was this beautiful doujin about Kongou dying in battle. As she sinks to her death, she pulls out a letter that Admiral gave her before the mission as a charm. She can't read it of course, because water, but she does find an engagement ring in the envelope.

With her last breath, she puts it on, and goes down as Admiral's wife.
