Kletian & Linie's Translations

Hello community.

I will be using this space to provide links to Hellabunna (and other) doujinshi that Linie and I have been slowly translating over the years. Linie handles scanning the doujinshi, editing out the Japanese font, decensoring the pictures, and inserting the English sound effects. I handle translating the Japanese and inserting the English dialogue.

Of course, it's Hellabunna that create the doujinshi in the first place. Big props to Iruma Kamiri and his associates for their great work!

Hello again. I've posted a translation of the second chapter of the Rei series.

I wouldn't mind uploading my translations to the main page, but I receive a 404 error when I try to do so. I suspect I don't have the authority to upload. However, considering my present output level, I'm not concerned.

Update: I've completed the third chapter of the Rei series. That cursed clone brush takes so much time for me to use properly. Perhaps it's time I enlist the help of a seasoned Photoshop user to remove the Japanese text for me...

If you can distinguish between verbal and non-verbal Japanese text, I would appreciate the help. In most cases, I leave the non-verbal text alone, whether they're in text bubbles or not. If you're up to it, feel free to send me an original copy and an edited copy of a page of doujinshi that requires use of the clone brush.

The translation for Rei Chapter 4 is nearly finished. If I wasn't busy with other things, I would have had it out sooner.

I have a question for the consumers of translated doujinshi: do you prefer to have the sound effects translated? Sound effects in manga consist of two types: giongo and gitaigo. Giongo mimic actual sounds, so translating them isn't a problem. Gitaigo, on the other hand, mimic actions, states, emotions, and so on, so translating them requires a bit of imagination. Gitaigo are truly a Japanese phenomenon. For some, having them fit into English spoils their authenticity. For others, having them left untranslated makes the translation feel incomplete. Either way, having them translated will add extra weeks between releases.

Are sound effects worth their price? Feel free to speak your mind.

The fourth chapter of the Rei series is finally posted. Everything, from the dialogue to the sound effects, has been translated. I dare say it's the most polished release yet. I give most of the credit to Linie, who did an excellent job decensoring the scans and inserting the sound effects. Perhaps I should rename this thread "Linie's Hellabunna Translations with a bit of help from Kletian."

I have a request: read Rei Chapter 4 and tell me, either here or through PM, if translating the sound effects is worth it. Translating sound effects truly unlocks a new dimension of the doujinshi, but it also takes a great deal of work. Essentially, translating the sound effects comes at a price of an extra few weeks between releases. I leave the choice to you.

Due to requests, Linie and I have begun working on FireWire: Murasaki. The Rei series is currently set aside, but I intend to get back to it later.

Mmmh, yep, in some ways is kind of awkward to see the translation for SFX, especially in the case of those that relate to actions, not sounds. Or those that were integral parts of the image composition (Willy has a point there).

My take in this matter was to see a doujin fully translated for the sake of complete understanding of ALL its content, not just dialogue. I think this give you a lot of information that otherwise would remain hidden.

But of course that's just my opinion. I guess I owe an apology to Kletian, since it was me who dragged him into translating those pesky buggers. Sorry ^_^

If most of people downloading this share Willy191's opinion, I'll edit future releases the usual way.

INU Murasaki is up. This may very well be the first time in its ten year life it receives a translation. I hope Linnie and I did it justice.

When the next project is decided, I'll show the project as "in progress" in the first post.

Edit: we'll be stepping outside the realm of Hellabunna with one of Eroquis's recent works, Sex Ninja Misogi. The manga's story isn't as dark as the Inu or Rei series, so it'll provide a nice change of pace.
