It's simply that the advertising companies have discovered that they can dictate terms to the sites that rely on their advertising revenue to support themselves.
It wasn't really a choice for FAKKU. It was get rid of that content or potentially the entirety of FAKKU goes down when they run out of money. For what it's worth, I think they made the right call in the situation.
